In October 2019, Lebanese citizens launched an uprising that will remain a major milestone in that country’s history. Its scale, breadth and unifying themes were unprecedented and captivated an entire nation. While it is true that no substantive change in Lebanon’s governance ensued and subsequent political gains fell short of expectations, this uprising revealed immense displays of empathy, courage, determination, innovation, and solidarity. And in many ways, it set the foundations for a better Lebanon and a more deserving future for its beautiful and resourceful people.

The author is deeply grateful to have experienced this unique episode in the country’s history and photographed it for posterity. The book was initially planned to be released in 2020 but the Coronavirus pandemic and later the August 4, 2020 explosion delayed its publication.

Recent developments prompted the author to revive it. The book was launched at a signing ceremony in Lebanon in August 2025, followed by a book signing event in Washington, DC in September 2025.

In addition to documenting a major historical event, the book project is also a fundraising initiative. All proceeds are being donated to Beit el Baraka, a very well respected NGO in Lebanon.
